San Antonio, Texas – A noticeable cooldown is expected to reach South Texas late this week, bringing chilly nights and near-freezing temperatures to the San Antonio area as a broader cold pattern settles across the region. While a hard freeze is not expected, overnight lows are forecast to dip to around 34 degrees, enough to impact sensitive plants and early morning travel.

According to the National Weather Service, colder air pushing south into Texas from Saturday through early next week will bring several nights of below-normal temperatures. Daytime conditions will remain dry, but clear skies at night will allow temperatures to fall quickly into the mid-30s, especially in outlying and low-lying areas.

San Antonio and surrounding communities, including New Braunfels, Boerne, and Seguin, could see the coldest readings during the pre-dawn hours. Elevated roadways are not expected to ice, but residents may notice patchy frost on vehicles, rooftops, and grassy surfaces during the coldest mornings. Rural areas north and west of the city are most likely to see temperatures briefly dip to the freezing mark.

Local officials recommend residents protect sensitive plants, check outdoor pets, and ensure heating systems are functioning properly. Those heading out early should allow a few extra minutes for cold starts and reduced visibility from morning frost.

Cool conditions are expected to persist through early next week, with temperatures gradually moderating as the cold pattern loosens its grip.
