Houston, TX – A Red Flag Warning is in effect for Houston and surrounding areas from noon until 9 p.m. Saturday due to dangerous fire conditions. High temperatures, gusty winds, and low humidity levels will increase the risk of rapidly spreading wildfires.
According to the National Weather Service, sustained winds of 10-20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph, combined with humidity as low as 18%, will create critical fire weather conditions. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning and use extreme caution with any activities that could spark a fire.
Looking ahead, Sunday will bring sunny skies and a high of 75°F, with north winds at 5-10 mph. By Monday, St. Patrick’s Day celebrations will see mild conditions, with partly cloudy skies and a high near 77°F. Breezy weather returns Tuesday, with highs reaching 78°F and gusty winds continuing.
The extended forecast shows mostly sunny conditions through the week, with temperatures ranging from the low 70s to high 70s. Cooler nights are expected, with lows dipping into the 50s.
Drivers along I-45 and Highway 59 should remain alert for changing conditions, as strong winds may impact visibility in open areas. Residents are advised to stay informed and take precautions during this period of heightened fire risk.
