Minneapolis, MN – A powerful weather system will bring thunderstorms, high winds, and possible snow to Minnesota starting Sunday, with impacts lasting through midweek. The storm will bring hazardous travel conditions, including gusts up to 60 mph and a mix of rain and snow.

According to the National Weather Service, thunderstorms will push through southern Minnesota early Sunday, bringing heavy rain and possible severe weather to the region. Areas in central and southeast Minnesota could see damaging wind gusts, hail, and isolated tornadoes. As the system moves through, temperatures will drop, turning rain into snow by Sunday night.

A High Wind Warning is in effect across much of western Minnesota on Saturday, with a Wind Advisory extending into Sunday. Winds of 45 to 60 mph are expected, creating dangerous conditions on roads, especially along Interstate 94 and Highway 169. Drivers should use caution, particularly in open areas where crosswinds could be hazardous.

By Monday, St. Patrick’s Day celebrations could see partly sunny skies and a high of 61°F. However, another system moving in Tuesday night could bring heavy snowfall, particularly in southern and eastern Minnesota. Snow accumulations remain uncertain but could be significant.

Looking ahead, the five-day forecast includes mostly sunny conditions Thursday and Friday, with highs in the low 40s. However, winter-like conditions may return midweek. Residents should stay updated on changing forecasts and prepare for possible travel disruptions.
