Lubbock, Texas – Drivers across the South Plains and Rolling Plains may encounter wet roads late tonight as scattered showers move quickly through the region, bringing brief downpours but little overall disruption heading into Thursday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, rain chances will increase area-wide late tonight and continue through around sunrise Thursday. The activity is expected to be fast-moving, keeping rainfall totals generally light, though a few locations could see short bursts of heavier rain.

The setup favors widespread showers rather than organized storms, and the potential for thunderstorms remains low. Still, brief downpours could reduce visibility at times, especially along major routes such as U.S. Highway 84, U.S. Highway 62/82, and Loop 289 around Lubbock during the overnight and early morning hours.

Communities across the Caprock and Rolling Plains, including Plainview, Levelland, Brownfield, Post, and Jayton, should plan for damp conditions to start the day Thursday. While flooding is not expected, slick spots may develop on untreated roads and elevated surfaces.

Rain chances taper off after sunrise Thursday as the system exits the region. No significant hazards are anticipated, but motorists are advised to slow down on wet roads and stay alert during the early commute. Additional updates will be issued if rain coverage or intensity changes overnight.
