Austin, TX – A Flood Watch remains in effect across portions of south-central Texas through Thursday evening, with forecasters warning that repeated rounds of heavy rain could lead to life-threatening flash flooding in some communities.

According to the National Weather Service in Austin/San Antonio, the watch covers parts of the Hill Country, I-35 corridor, southern Edwards Plateau, and Rio Grande Plains from Monday, July 13, through Thursday evening, July 16.

Forecasters expect widespread rainfall totals of 2 to 6 inches across much of the watch area. However, isolated locations—particularly across the Rio Grande Plains, southern Edwards Plateau, and western Hill Country—could receive 10 to 15 inches of rain if thunderstorms repeatedly move over the same locations.

The National Weather Service warns that life-threatening flooding is possible somewhere within the watch area. Rivers, creeks, streams, low-water crossings, and other flood-prone locations could rise rapidly, especially during periods of intense rainfall.

Communities including Austin, San Antonio, New Braunfels, Kerrville, Fredericksburg, Georgetown, Del Rio, Eagle Pass, Uvalde, Hondo, and Rocksprings should closely monitor the forecast as conditions evolve throughout the week.

Residents are urged to have multiple ways to receive weather warnings and be prepared to move to higher ground if Flash Flood Warnings are issued. Motorists should never drive across flooded roadways, as water depth and road conditions can be impossible to judge.

Additional watches, warnings, or advisories may be issued as rainfall develops over the coming days.
