Austin, Texas – Temperatures are climbing fast across South-Central Texas, and drivers and outdoor workers will feel near-summer heat within the next 48 hours as highs surge into the low to mid-90s by Wednesday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Austin/San Antonio, highs will reach 91–95°F across the region through Friday, running 10 to 15 degrees above seasonal averages. A cold front arriving late Friday night will push temperatures down into the upper 70s and low 80s by Saturday, with a slight chance of brief showers near the Rio Grande before sunrise Saturday.

Austin is expected to hit 92°F Wednesday and Thursday, while San Antonio reaches 91°F both days. Del Rio and Eagle Pass will be the hottest zones, peaking near 94–95°F. Morning lows remain mild in the 60s, limiting overnight cooling and increasing heat stress for those without air conditioning.

Low clouds early each morning will clear by midday, giving way to strong sunshine and rapid warming. TxDOT officials urge drivers to check vehicles for overheating risks, especially during afternoon travel.

The cooler air arrives quickly Saturday, dropping Austin to 76°F and San Antonio to 78°F, offering brief relief before temperatures rebound into the 80s early next week. Additional updates are expected if rain chances increase late Friday.
