Corpus Christi, Texas – Drivers across South Texas could encounter flooded roadways and rapidly changing travel conditions within the next 24 hours as repeated rounds of tropical rainfall move across the Coastal Bend and Rio Grande Plains through midweek.

According to the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi, widespread rainfall totals of 2 to 6 inches are expected from Monday through Friday, with the heaviest amounts focused near the middle and lower Texas coast. Forecasters also indicate a 10% chance of localized totals reaching 8 inches or more, especially where thunderstorms repeatedly track over the same locations. Excessive rainfall outlooks place parts of South Texas under a Moderate Risk for flash flooding Monday and Tuesday, followed by a Slight Risk on Wednesday.

The highest rainfall projections extend from the Corpus Christi area south toward Kingsville and portions of the Coastal Bend, where localized totals of 4 to 6 inches appear likely. Low-water crossings, urban streets, drainage canals and flood-prone neighborhoods could experience flooding during periods of intense rainfall.

The National Hurricane Center is also monitoring a broad area of low pressure over the western Gulf of Mexico. Current forecasts give the system a 30% chance of tropical development during the next seven days. While development remains uncertain, deep tropical moisture associated with the disturbance is expected to maintain elevated rain chances and rough marine conditions along the Texas coast.

Residents should closely monitor forecasts, avoid driving across flooded roadways and have multiple ways to receive weather alerts. Additional flood advisories, watches or warnings may be issued as heavy rainfall continues through the first half of the week.
