Tyler, Texas – A tornado watch has been issued for several East Texas counties, including Tyler, until 9 p.m. CDT today, as severe thunderstorms continue to develop across the region. The National Weather Service issued the alert at 1:35 p.m. CDT, warning of the potential for tornadoes, large hail, and damaging winds in these areas.

According to the Storm Prediction Center, the following counties are under the tornado watch: Angelina, Cherokee, Gregg, Hardin, Harrison, Jasper, Jefferson, Nacogdoches, Newton, Orange, Panola, Rusk, Sabine, San Augustine, Shelby, Smith, and Tyler. Residents in these areas should remain vigilant and be prepared for rapidly changing conditions.

The storm system will likely bring intense rainfall, with the possibility of localized flooding. Strong wind gusts, combined with the threat of tornadoes, may cause downed trees and power lines, leading to power outages in affected areas.

Authorities advise people in the watch area to have an emergency kit ready, stay indoors, and monitor local news and weather updates. Drivers should be prepared for hazardous road conditions due to heavy rain and debris. The tornado watch remains in effect until 9 p.m., and more advisories may be issued depending on how the weather develops.
