Dallas, Texas – A tornado watch is in effect across North Texas through 9 p.m. Monday, placing millions in the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area and surrounding counties at risk for damaging storms, large hail, and possible tornadoes.
According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, Tornado Watch 295 includes 13 counties, from Denton and Collin down to Parker and Palo Pinto. Storms are expected to intensify through the afternoon and early evening, with the highest risk window between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Cities under the watch include Denton, McKinney, Sherman, Gainesville, and Weatherford. Strong wind gusts over 60 mph and hail up to 2 inches in diameter are possible. Rural areas in Cooke, Jack, and Young counties should also stay alert, as isolated supercells could spin up quickly with little warning.
Residents are urged to review their shelter plans, charge phones, and stay weather-aware, especially if traveling on I-35, U.S. 82, or U.S. 380.
The watch remains active until 9 p.m., but additional warnings may follow if storms hold together into the night. Stay tuned for updates from local NWS offices.
