Nacogdoches, Texas – Residents across Deep East Texas should prepare for damaging winds and large hail this afternoon as a Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 7 p.m. Friday.

According to the National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center, the watch covers 13 counties, including Angelina, Nacogdoches, Cherokee, and Jasper. The primary hazards include isolated wind gusts over 60 mph and quarter-sized hail. Thunderstorms are expected to become more widespread through the late afternoon.

Localized power outages and downed tree limbs are possible, particularly in heavily wooded areas like San Augustine and Sabine counties. Travel on rural highways such as US-69 and TX-21 could be impacted by low visibility and debris. Emergency managers recommend staying indoors and securing outdoor objects ahead of incoming storms.

This watch is part of a broader system affecting portions of the southeastern U.S., marking one of the first widespread thunderstorm threats of the spring for East Texas.

Conditions will be monitored closely, and additional warnings may be issued as storms intensify. Stay tuned to local alerts and be prepared to take shelter if a warning is issued for your area.
