Lubbock, Texas – Large hail and damaging winds could sweep through West Texas this evening as fast-moving thunderstorms hit the region between 2 and 8 p.m., with Lubbock and surrounding cities directly in the storm’s path.
According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, storms will develop early afternoon near the Texas–New Mexico border and rapidly push east at 40–50 mph. Areas along the I-27 corridor — including Plainview, Lubbock, and Post — are most at risk for large hail and gusty winds between 4 and 8 p.m.
Cities such as Muleshoe, Littlefield, Levelland, and Brownfield could see storms begin as early as 2 p.m., with eastern locations like Spur and Paducah affected into the evening. The overall risk level is “slight,” but forecasters stress that isolated severe storms could still produce quarter-sized hail and wind gusts over 60 mph.
Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, avoid unnecessary travel during storm windows, and monitor NOAA Weather Radio for updates. While tornadoes are unlikely, power outages and downed tree limbs are possible.
Storms should exit the region by late evening, but additional advisories could be issued if conditions evolve.
