Dallas, TX – North Texas residents should prepare for a windy and potentially dangerous Friday as high winds and low humidity create an increased fire risk across the region. Gusts up to 60 mph could damage power lines, bring down tree limbs, and cause travel hazards.

According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, a High Wind Watch and Fire Weather Watch are in effect from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday for areas west of I-35, including Dallas, Fort Worth, and surrounding counties. Southwest winds of 25-40 mph are expected, with peak gusts reaching 60 mph. The dry conditions, combined with humidity as low as 11%, could rapidly spread any fires that ignite.

Drivers, especially those in high-profile vehicles, should use caution on highways such as I-35 and I-20. Residents should secure outdoor furniture, trim weak tree branches, and prepare for possible power outages. Fire officials urge the public to avoid outdoor burning and any activities that could spark flames.

Looking ahead, the five-day forecast brings a mix of spring temperatures and calmer weather after Friday’s wind event. Saturday will see highs in the low 70s with lighter winds, while Sunday remains sunny with temperatures near 71°F. Early next week, highs will climb into the upper 70s, with mostly clear skies.

Stay updated with local alerts and prepare for changing conditions as spring weather continues to impact North Texas.
