Texas Rainfall Update: Bootleg RAWS Reports 3.17 Inches by Noon, Additional Showers Expected

Amarillo, Texas – Several parts of Texas have experienced heavy rainfall through noon today, with totals expected to rise throughout the evening. The Bootleg RAWS station has recorded the highest rainfall so far at 3.17 inches, and other areas are seeing significant accumulations as well.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), rainfall totals from today’s event have already ranged from 0.5 inches to over 3 inches across the Texas Panhandle, with more expected. Areas like Palo Duro Canyon (2.78 inches), Vega (2.69 inches), and Hereford (2.96 inches) have also reported notable rainfall totals. The NWS warns that many of these totals will likely increase tonight as the rain continues to fall.

Residents of Amarillo and surrounding areas should prepare for possible localized flooding and keep an eye on road conditions. With the rain expected to last through tonight, drivers should avoid unnecessary travel, particularly on roads prone to standing water. Areas along the Texas Highway 287 corridor, as well as southern regions like Canyon, are already experiencing reduced visibility and slick conditions.
