Amarillo, TX – High winds and blowing dust are set to create hazardous conditions across the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles through Tuesday evening, with gusts reaching up to 70 mph.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, a High Wind Warning and Blowing Dust Advisory remain in effect until 8 p.m. Monday for Cimarron, Dallam, and Hartley counties, with winds between 35 to 40 mph and gusts up to 60 mph. Another High Wind Warning will go into effect from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with north winds increasing to 45 mph and gusts potentially hitting 70 mph.

Oldham and Deaf Smith counties are also under a Blowing Dust Advisory until Monday evening, with reduced visibility expected. A High Wind Watch for Tuesday could bring similar conditions, making travel hazardous, particularly for high-profile vehicles.

Moore, Sherman, and Texas counties in Oklahoma will experience dangerous winds, with a Blowing Dust Advisory until 8 p.m. Monday and a High Wind Warning extending through Tuesday. Residents in these areas should prepare for widespread power outages and possible structural damage.

Authorities urge residents to stay indoors, avoid unnecessary travel, and secure outdoor objects. If caught in blowing dust while driving, pull aside, turn off your lights, and remain in your vehicle until visibility improves.
