Amarillo, TX – Rain and snow showers are expected to sweep across the Texas Panhandle this weekend, with Amarillo and surrounding communities facing a 75% chance of precipitation early Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, the strongest window for measurable rainfall and snowfall is between 1 a.m. and 7 a.m. Sunday, April 20. Cities including Borger, Hereford, and Guymon, OK, are also forecasted to see high precipitation chances during this period. Scattered showers and thunderstorms may begin as early as Friday evening and continue through Sunday night, potentially leading to minor travel impacts.

Forecasters warn that lightning from thunderstorms could disrupt outdoor activities, and visibility may be reduced due to rain or snowfall. Overnight lows are expected to dip into the mid-30s across much of the region, with Amarillo reaching 40°F and Boise City and Dalhart dropping to near freezing.

Residents are urged to monitor weather alerts, limit travel during peak storm hours, and protect sensitive plants from possible frost or freeze. Minor snow accumulation may occur, especially in higher elevations or colder pockets, though widespread impacts are not expected.

The weather system is expected to clear by Monday morning, bringing calmer conditions across the region.
