Lubbock, Texas – Evening drivers across the South Plains may encounter lightning, brief downpours, or gusty winds as isolated thunderstorms develop along a Silverton-to-Brownfield corridor tonight.

According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, storms are expected to remain scattered, with the highest chances focused across the southeastern half of the region through midnight. Communities including Post, Childress, Crosbyton, and Tahoka are most likely to see storm activity.

While widespread severe weather is not anticipated, residents should remain alert to rapidly changing conditions. Localized lightning, brief heavy rainfall, and isolated wind gusts could affect visibility and travel. Temperatures are forecast to remain mild overnight, generally in the 60s and low 70s.

Motorists are advised to slow down during downpours, and residents should secure loose outdoor items in areas expecting storms. While much of the region, including Lubbock, Plainview, and Friona, will stay dry under partly cloudy skies, occasional thunder cannot be ruled out near the storm zone.

Storm chances diminish after midnight, with more stable conditions returning by early Thursday. The NWS will continue to monitor for any additional storm development.
