Amarillo, TX – Residents of the Texas Panhandle should prepare for unseasonably warm temperatures as Christmas approaches. The National Weather Service (NWS) predicts above-average warmth across the region from Dec. 15 to Dec. 21.
According to the NWS Amarillo office, there is a 65% chance of above-normal temperatures next week. While the area is accustomed to fluctuating winter weather, these temperatures could feel more like mid-fall. Average highs for this period in Amarillo hover around 51 degrees, but next week could exceed those numbers.
In addition to the warmth, precipitation is expected to remain below normal. The Panhandle faces a 34% chance of drier-than-usual conditions, leaving the region with limited rainfall prospects during a typically cooler season.
Meteorologists attribute this trend to broader atmospheric patterns influencing much of the U.S., with warmer-than-usual temperatures forecast across large portions of the Midwest and South. Residents are encouraged to enjoy the mild weather while staying alert for possible changes as winter storms often follow sudden warmth.
