Lincoln, IL – Central Illinois residents are in for a warm December weekend, with temperatures climbing well above normal before a midweek cooldown.
Sunday will begin sunny, with highs ranging from 52 to 57 degrees, offering a rare taste of springlike weather in December. However, the National Weather Service (NWS) warns that rain is likely late Sunday night, particularly in areas southeast of Interstate 55. Overnight temperatures will dip into the 38 to 46-degree range.
Monday remains mild with highs near 56 degrees, but colder air will sweep in Tuesday, dropping highs into the low 40s. By Wednesday, daytime temperatures could plummet to the mid-30s, with overnight lows nearing 13 degrees.
According to the NWS, the trend of fluctuating temperatures will continue, with warmer-than-normal conditions possible next weekend. The extended outlook for December 15-21 also hints at favorable warmth.
Residents are encouraged to take advantage of the weekend’s mild weather before bundling up for the week ahead. Keep an eye on forecasts for updates as rain moves into the region.
