Amarillo, TX – Residents in the Texas Panhandle woke up to chilly temperatures and brisk winds Tuesday, marking the coldest day of the week. Highs are expected to peak in the low 40s, but wind chills will keep apparent temperatures in the 30s throughout the day.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, northerly winds at 20 to 30 mph will make conditions feel much colder. Wind chills are forecast to drop into the low 20s by the evening, and drivers along I-40 and other Panhandle highways should exercise caution due to the breezy conditions. The National Weather Service advises dressing in layers and limiting time outdoors to avoid prolonged exposure.

Tonight, temperatures will fall to 24°F, with wind chills plummeting as low as 17°F. Winds are expected to diminish slightly overnight, but the biting cold will persist into Wednesday morning.

Looking ahead, the extended forecast brings some relief. By Wednesday, sunny skies will push temperatures into the mid-50s, and by Friday, highs will reach 60°F. The weekend promises milder conditions, with sunny skies and highs nearing 63°F by Sunday.

Residents should remain vigilant for colder nights, especially through midweek. Be sure to check on neighbors and pets and ensure outdoor plants are protected from frost.
