Amarillo, Texas – A powerful surge of unseasonable heat is set to expand across the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles, sending temperatures soaring well above late-March averages and creating smooth but windy travel conditions during the spring break period.
According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, this region will experience temperatures running 50 to 80 percent above normal from March 24 through March 30, while precipitation trends lean below normal. This pattern supports extended sunshine and very limited rain chances.
Across Amarillo, Dalhart, Borger, and Guymon, daytime highs are expected to climb into the upper 70s to mid-80s, with mornings in the 40s and 50s. Major corridors including I-40, U.S. 287, and U.S. 54 are expected to remain dry, supporting steady travel across the High Plains.
Drivers should prepare for gusty winds, especially during the afternoon hours, which could impact high-profile vehicles and reduce visibility with blowing dust in open areas. Stay alert on east-west routes where crosswinds will be strongest.
For baseball fans across the region, including those following teams in Texas, the opening stretch of the season will feel more like early summer, with light clothing recommended.
This warm, dry pattern is expected to hold through late March, with only minor changes possible heading into early April.
