Midland, TX – A significant heatwave is set to grip the Northeast Permian Basin this weekend, prompting a heat advisory for Saturday afternoon and early evening. Temperatures are forecasted to reach a blistering 105°F, with the National Weather Service (NWS) warning residents to take necessary precautions.

According to the NWS Midland/Odessa office, the heat advisory covers much of the region, including Snyder, Gail, and Colorado City. Residents are advised to stay indoors during peak heat hours, take frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas, and remain hydrated. Additionally, the NWS strongly urges against leaving children or pets in vehicles, as temperatures can become life-threatening in minutes.

The heatwave is expected to persist through the week, with daily highs hovering around 99°F to 102°F. Sunday and Monday will bring temperatures close to 100°F, while Tuesday and Wednesday are predicted to reach 102°F. The forecast indicates little relief in sight, with temperatures remaining near the 100°F mark into Thursday.

Residents should prepare for prolonged exposure to extreme heat by wearing lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and staying informed of further advisories. This prolonged heat event underscores the importance of taking proactive measures to ensure safety during one of the hottest weeks of the summer.
