San Antonio, TX – A searing heatwave continues to grip much of south central Texas, pushing temperatures into dangerous territory through Wednesday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Austin/San Antonio, a Heat Advisory remains in effect until 1 p.m. CDT Wednesday, followed immediately by an Extreme Heat Warning from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. CDT the same day. Air temperatures are expected to climb as high as 108°F across the region, with areas along the Rio Grande possibly reaching 115°F.

The advisory spans a wide area including San Antonio, Austin, Del Rio, Eagle Pass, Uvalde, and New Braunfels. The NWS warns that these conditions will significantly raise the risk of heat-related illnesses, especially for individuals spending extended time outdoors.

Residents are urged to stay hydrated, avoid direct sun during peak afternoon hours, and limit strenuous activity. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned spaces for outdoor workers.

Local officials are checking on vulnerable populations, while emergency services are bracing for a potential spike in heat exhaustion and heat stroke cases. Texans are encouraged to monitor neighbors, especially the elderly, and to seek immediate medical attention for symptoms like confusion or rapid heartbeat.
