Corpus Christi, TX – A powerful cold front is set to bring dangerous marine conditions to the Texas Gulf Coast tonight, with the National Weather Service offices in Brownsville and Corpus Christi issuing Gale Warnings for all coastal waters from Baffin Bay to the Rio Grande and northward toward Matagorda Ship Channel.
The warnings take effect Tuesday evening, lasting through Wednesday night, with north winds of 25 to 35 knots and gusts up to 40–45 knots expected. Offshore seas could reach 12 to 17 feet, while conditions in the Laguna Madre and coastal bays will become extremely choppy and hazardous for small craft.
Forecasters warn that the cold front will sweep across Deep South Texas overnight Tuesday, bringing a sharp wind shift from south to north and rapidly deteriorating sea conditions around midnight. Mariners are urged to remain in port, secure their vessels, and avoid travel until winds subside late Wednesday night.
The strongest winds are expected between midnight and dawn Wednesday, with only gradual improvement late in the day.
