Morehead City, NC –
Mariners across the North Carolina coast are facing dangerous marine conditions as the National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City keeps Gale Warnings in effect through early Wednesday morning.

The warnings cover Pamlico Sound, Albemarle and Croatan Sounds, and the coastal waters from Currituck Beach to Surf City, including Cape Hatteras, Cape Lookout, and the Pamlico and Neuse Rivers.

Forecasters report northeast winds of 25 to 40 knots, with gusts up to 45 knots, and seas between 10 and 18 feet—creating extremely hazardous conditions for all vessels. The strongest winds are expected through Tuesday night, with only gradual improvement by Wednesday morning.

The National Weather Service warns that these conditions could capsize small vessels, damage poorly secured boats, and reduce visibility across coastal waters. Mariners are urged to remain in port, secure vessels, and avoid travel until winds and seas subside.

The rough weather is part of a persistent coastal system funneling cold, gusty air down the Atlantic coast, keeping conditions unsettled into midweek.
