Dallas, TX – Heavy rain and severe thunderstorms have triggered flash flooding across North Texas, prompting the National Weather Service (NWS) in Fort Worth to extend a Flash Flood Warning for multiple counties, including Dallas, Collin, Kaufman, and Rockwall, until 5 a.m. Thursday.

According to the NWS, between 2 to 4 inches of rain have already fallen since Wednesday evening, and additional storms moving into the region could lead to dangerous flash flooding. Radar estimates show localized areas experiencing even higher totals.

Dallas County law enforcement has reported numerous flooded and closed roads, particularly in urban areas and low-lying spots. Cities affected include Dallas, Garland, Irving, Mesquite, and Grand Prairie, where water has covered streets and made travel hazardous.

Flash flooding is also impacting Ellis, Johnson, and Hill counties, where Mansfield, Waxahachie, and Ennis have seen significant rainfall. The NWS warns that small creeks, underpasses, and poorly drained streets are especially vulnerable.

Residents are urged to avoid driving through flooded roads, as just a few inches of moving water can sweep vehicles away. Those in flood-prone areas should be prepared to move to higher ground if necessary.

The storms are expected to continue through early morning before tapering off. Stay updated with the latest weather alerts from the National Weather Service and local authorities.
