Amarillo, TX – Bitter cold continues to grip the Texas Panhandle, with wind chills plunging as low as -30°F through Thursday morning. An Extreme Cold Warningremains in effect until noon Thursday, urging residents to take precautions against frostbite and hypothermia.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), dangerously cold air will persist across the region, with overnight lows around 1°F Wednesday night. Wind chills will remain between -10°F and -30°F, creating life-threatening conditions for anyone exposed. Officials advise wearing layers, avoiding extended outdoor exposure, and ensuring pets are sheltered.
Thursday will bring mostly sunny skies but little relief, with highs only reaching 28°Fand wind chills still near zero. However, a warming trend arrives by Friday, with highs climbing to 41°F, followed by 59°F on Saturday and 65°F by Sunday.
Residents should check on vulnerable neighbors and avoid using gas-powered heaters indoors. Warmer conditions will offer relief by the weekend, but until then, extreme cold precautions remain necessary.
