San Antonio, TX – A surge of Arctic air will bring freezing temperatures to South-Central Texas beginning Sunday night and continuing into midweek. Residents should prepare for hard freezes, hazardous travel, and possible snow accumulation.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Austin-San Antonio, sub-freezing temperatures could drop into the mid-20s in San Antonio and surrounding areas from late Sunday through Wednesday morning. Wind chills will make it feel even colder, with values as low as the teens. Residents are advised to protect people, pets, pipes, and plants ahead of this cold spell.
Confidence is growing that a wintry mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain will develop Monday night into Tuesday morning. The NWS reports a 20-50% chance of snow accumulation of up to half an inch and a 20-40% chance of freezing rain across the region, including major roadways like I-35 and U.S. Route 281. Travel could become dangerous, especially during the Monday evening and Tuesday morning commutes.
Milder weather is expected Friday and Saturday, with daytime highs in the mid-60s to low 70s under partly sunny skies. However, temperatures will plummet overnight Saturday into Sunday, with lows nearing freezing and highs struggling to reach the 40s.
This five-day outlook highlights significant changes in weather:
• Friday: Mostly cloudy, high of 69°F, low of 44°F.
• Saturday: Sunny, high of 66°F, low of 33°F.
