Knoxville, TN — The Nolichucky River crested Saturday after extreme rainfall from the remnants of Hurricane Helene. Water levels surged 8 feet above the previous record. Despite the unprecedented rise, the Nolichucky Dam in Greene County remains intact, according to the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA).

The river is now receding at about one foot per hour, easing immediate concerns. TVA’s Dam Safety teams continue to monitor the dam’s condition while assessing next steps. Local officials remain on high alert to ensure public safety.

According to local emergency management, potential flooding remains a risk downstream, particularly near Douglas Reservoir. County officials are working with the TVA to monitor the situation closely. They encourage residents in affected areas to stay updated on evacuation orders and warnings.
