Pendleton, OR – Residents of Pendleton and surrounding areas are under a Fire Weather Watch starting Sunday, with windy and dry conditions expected to elevate fire risks. The National Weather Service has issued the warning due to a dry cold front sweeping through eastern Oregon and Washington, bringing gusts of up to 35 mph and humidity levels as low as 15%.

According to the National Weather Service, the Fire Weather Watch will affect the Lower Columbia Basin, including major routes like I-84. Winds are expected to increase throughout the day, particularly in grassy areas prone to rapid fire spread. Conditions could worsen as dust storms and low visibility are also anticipated in affected regions.

Locals are urged to avoid outdoor activities that could spark fires and secure loose objects as winds pick up. The critical fire weather conditions will last through Sunday evening. Winds may persist into Monday morning, though temperatures are forecast to cool, with highs around 67°F.

Looking ahead, Pendleton will see mostly clear skies through Tuesday, with highs ranging from 67°F to 76°F, providing some relief from the fire risk early in the week. Residents should stay updated on local conditions and follow fire safety precautions as the watch remains in effect.
