Nashville, TN – A woman faces vehicular homicide charges after a fatal hit-and-run Monday night in Nashville. The crash killed 65-year-old scooter rider Charles Fountain.

Police charged Karla Guadalupe Armendariz, 25, with vehicular homicide by intoxication and leaving the scene of a deadly crash. Officers also charged her with driving without a license.

A Crime Stoppers tip led police to a gray Toyota Tundra parked at an Edmondson Pike apartment complex. The truck’s owner told police Armendariz, the driver, wanted to surrender.

Police said she admitted drinking six beers and taking prescription medication before the crash. She claimed she blacked out and did not remember hitting Fountain.

Fountain, a truck driver, had ridden his electric scooter to a Dollar General Store. While returning to his parked truck at the TA Truck Stop, the pickup struck him and dragged his scooter for 900 feet before dislodging. The driver fled toward Murfreesboro Pike.

Armendariz remains in custody on a $100,000 bond.
