Nashville, TN – A winter weather advisory remains in effect for parts of Middle Tennessee from 6 p.m. Wednesday to 6 a.m. Thursday, as snow and gusty winds are expected to create hazardous travel conditions.
According to the National Weather Service, snowfall totals could reach up to three inches in areas including Cookeville, Crossville, and McMinnville. Winds could gust as high as 35 mph, potentially causing reduced visibility and slippery roads. In Bledsoe, Marion, and Sequatchie counties, lighter snow accumulations of up to one inch are anticipated, but road conditions may still be impacted.
The hazardous conditions are expected to affect the Wednesday evening commute and could continue into early Thursday morning. Motorists are advised to drive cautiously, slow down, and allow extra travel time.
Officials recommend checking road conditions before traveling by calling 511. Residents should also prepare for potential delays and exercise caution on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses.
This winter system is part of a broader weather pattern affecting the region, bringing unseasonably cold temperatures and winter precipitation. While snowfall amounts are expected to remain moderate, the combination of snow and strong winds could create treacherous travel conditions overnight.
The advisory will expire at 6 a.m. CST Thursday as temperatures begin to rise, improving road conditions gradually.
