Annapolis, MD – The Bay Bridge has reopened after temporary closures due to high winds, but restrictions remain in place.
According to the Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA), traffic was released, but wind advisories continue to affect certain vehicles. Sustained winds of 30 mph or higher trigger advisories, while stronger gusts lead to restrictions or closures.
Vehicles most impacted include house trailers, box trailers, motorcycles, and those with roof-mounted cargo. When winds exceed 40 mph, law enforcement may prohibit some vehicles from crossing. At 50 mph, only passenger vehicles, buses, and heavy-laden trucks are permitted. If winds exceed 55 mph, MDTA may suspend all traffic.
Motorists should check MDTA alerts before traveling. Wind restrictions also apply to the Thomas J. Hatem Memorial Bridge, where bicycles are prohibited.
Drivers should use caution and expect sudden travel disruptions as high winds persist.
