Memphis, TN – Showers and thunderstorms are set to drench the Mid-South today, with a cold front moving through Tennessee, bringing heavy rain and gusty winds to the region. Motorists on I-40 and surrounding highways should prepare for slippery conditions and reduced visibility during the afternoon and evening hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, showers will increase in coverage this afternoon with a 90% chance of precipitation. Winds from the south-southwest will reach 15 to 25 mph, making travel tricky, especially during evening commutes. Rainfall totals are expected to range between a quarter to half an inch, with locally higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

The wet pattern continues into tonight with a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Conditions will remain mostly cloudy, and temperatures will drop to a low near 47 degrees. Calm winds will transition to a northeast direction overnight.

Looking Ahead:

• Tuesday: Expect scattered showers early, followed by partly sunny skies and a high near 61. Winds will shift northeast around 5 mph.

• Tuesday Night: Showers and thunderstorms will return, primarily between 9 p.m. and midnight, with new rainfall amounts near a quarter inch.

• Wednesday: Showers are likely with possible thunderstorms, clearing by late afternoon. Highs will cool to 52 degrees.

• Thursday and Friday: A shift in the weather pattern will bring sunny, clear skies, with highs in the mid-40s.

Residents should remain cautious on roadways today and prepare for potential delays during the afternoon commute. Drivers are advised to slow down, turn on headlights, and stay updated on changing conditions through the National Weather Service.
