Nashville, TN – A typical midsummer weather pattern is settling across Middle Tennessee this week, bringing daily chances for afternoon and evening thunderstorms along with steadily increasing heat and humidity through the end of the workweek.

According to the National Weather Service in Nashville, isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected each afternoon through at least the weekend. While widespread severe weather is not anticipated, any storm that develops could quickly produce heavy downpours, gusty winds, frequent cloud-to-ground lightning, and localized flooding.

Temperatures will gradually climb over the next several days, with highs ranging from the upper 70s and 80s Tuesday to the lower and middle 90s by the weekend. Overnight lows will remain warm, generally in the upper 60s to middle 70s.

Forecasters say humidity will continue increasing, pushing heat index values to around or just above 100 degrees by Thursday, especially during the afternoon and early evening hours.

Rain chances remain in the 20% to 60% range each day, with the highest likelihood for scattered thunderstorms occurring during the afternoon and evening before activity diminishes overnight.

The National Weather Service reminds residents that summertime thunderstorms can intensify quickly. If thunder is heard, move indoors immediately into a sturdy building or vehicle, avoid windows, and have multiple ways to receive weather warnings. Those spending time outdoors should stay hydrated, take frequent breaks, and monitor changing weather conditions throughout the week.
