MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Streetlights glimmer on wet pavement early this Sunday morning as a thick mist hangs over the Mississippi River. The sound of steady rainfall echoes off rooftops — a reminder that the Mid-South’s late-October weather pattern remains active and unsettled. While conditions stay damp today, a calmer, brighter stretch is coming just in time for Halloween week.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, widespread rain and a few embedded thunderstorms will continue through early Sunday afternoon, with gusts up to 20 mph possible along I-40 and U.S. 78. Rain chances ease briefly Sunday night before another round of lighter showers develops Monday morning. By Tuesday, skies begin to clear, and warmer, drier air takes hold.

Highs will climb into the mid-60s Tuesday with low humidity and calmer winds, marking a much-needed pause in the wet pattern. However, lingering puddles and damp shoulders along major routes could slow the Monday commute, particularly around Shelby, Fayette, and DeSoto Counties. Drivers should allow extra travel time and use caution where standing water persists.

By midweek, high pressure will settle over the region, delivering sunny, crisp days and cooler nights — classic late-October weather. Halloween Friday looks nearly perfect for trick-or-treating: clear skies, light winds, and temperatures near 60°F at sunset.

Residents can use the break to finish outdoor cleanup or early decorating before November’s first chill sets in. Early model trends suggest a cooler, drier start to November, hinting that the Mid-South may soon feel its first brush with true fall air.
