Memphis, Tenn. – The morning sun is already baking sidewalks across the Mid-South, and the humidity is climbing fast. By early afternoon, stepping outside will feel more like walking into a steam bath than a typical July day, with dangerous heat becoming the biggest concern across the Memphis area.
West Tennessee is entering a prolonged stretch of intense summer heat, with temperatures climbing well into the 90s and humidity pushing heat index values as high as 106 to 107 degrees. According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, today’s high will reach 95 degrees, but it will feel significantly hotter during the afternoon because of tropical moisture locked over the region.
Most of the day stays sunny, making outdoor conditions increasingly uncomfortable. While a 10% chance of an isolated thunderstorm develops late Sunday afternoon, meaningful relief from the heat remains unlikely. Temperatures continue climbing into early next week, reaching 96 degrees Monday before peaking near 99 degrees Tuesday.
The hottest conditions will impact the Memphis metro, including Bartlett, Germantown, Collierville, Millington and nearby communities. Drivers along Interstate 40, Interstate 240 and Interstate 55 should carry water in their vehicles and avoid extended stops on exposed pavement during the hottest hours of the day.
Outdoor workers, youth sports participants and festival-goers should schedule frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned locations. Never leave children or pets inside parked vehicles, even for a few minutes, as interior temperatures can become life-threatening very quickly.
While widespread thunderstorms are not expected through Tuesday, isolated storms that do develop could produce brief lightning and locally heavy rain. The overall weather pattern favors persistent heat across much of the Mid-South, with above-normal temperatures likely continuing into late next week.
