MEMPHIS, TN — Wet roads and low gray skies signal a chilly start to the first full week of December across the Mid-South. Light rain began filtering into western Tennessee early Monday and is expected to continue through the afternoon and evening, with brief heavier showers before tapering by sunrise Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, the region will see rainfall amounts between a tenth and a quarter inch, just enough to create slick pavement during the evening commute. Winds from the northeast around 10 mph will draw cooler air across the Mississippi River, keeping temperatures near the upper 30s through sunset.

By Tuesday, skies clear as sunshine returns and temperatures rebound slightly to the upper 30s and low 40s. Calm winds and dry air will dominate midweek before the next system slides in late Thursday. That round could bring scattered showers again Thursday night and Friday, adding another damp stretch for early December travel.

Meteorologists note that while no snow or ice is expected in the Memphis area this week, temperatures will dip near freezing at night, raising the potential for patchy frost by midweek.
