Huntsville, AL – A sharp cold front is sweeping across Alabama, bringing gusty winds and plunging temperatures to the Huntsville area. Residents should prepare for chilly daytime highs and freezing overnight conditions starting Thursday and continuing through the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service, Thursday will see highs around 54°F, with west-northwest winds gusting up to 20 mph. Overnight lows are forecast to drop to the mid-30s, prompting patchy frost in low-lying areas, especially along corridors such as I-565 and U.S. 72. Friday night could see even colder conditions, with lows nearing 32°F.
Local officials recommend securing outdoor items susceptible to wind and ensuring plants or outdoor pets are protected from frost overnight. The cooler air mass will persist through Saturday before gradually warming on Sunday. Daytime highs for the weekend are expected to range from 55°F to 64°F under mostly sunny skies.
The extended five-day outlook offers a reprieve for the Huntsville area starting Sunday, as temperatures climb back into the 60s. However, Saturday morning frost remains a concern, especially for those commuting early or traveling across rural roads.
Residents are advised to monitor the weather closely and take precautions to stay safe in freezing conditions. The Huntsville Emergency Management Agency reminds locals to check heating systems and avoid using outdoor heaters indoors to reduce fire hazards.
