Memphis, Tennessee – Thunder rumbles back into the Mid-South this spring as a fresh round of rain and storms sets its sights on Memphis starting midday Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service, a 50% chance of thunderstorms will develop after 1 p.m. Wednesday, potentially bringing gusty winds, lightning, and brief downpours across the city. Residents should prepare for possible travel delays on I-240, I-55, and major surface streets by early afternoon. Showers may linger into Thursday with additional thunderstorm chances overnight.

Memphians should secure outdoor items and avoid unnecessary driving during peak storm hours. Though severe weather isn’t guaranteed, brief isolated thunderstorms could produce heavy bursts of rain and low visibility. The chance of precipitation remains at 50% into Thursday, with rainfall totals between a tenth and quarter inch, higher near thunderstorm zones.

By Friday, conditions dry out slightly with partly sunny skies and a high of 75°F. Winds from the north will bring drier, cooler air, and Friday night’s low is expected around 54°F. The spring pattern continues into the weekend, with daily rain chances between 20% and 30%.
