Knoxville, TN – A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for much of eastern Tennessee, including Knoxville and surrounding counties, as strong storms move through the region this evening. The watch, which is in effect until 11 p.m. EDT, comes with the potential for damaging winds, large hail, and brief heavy rainfall.

According to the National Weather Service, the areas affected include Anderson, Blount, Hamilton, Knox, and Washington counties, among others. Localized flooding and gusty winds up to 70 mph are possible with these storms, which are expected to intensify through the evening.

The worst of the storms will likely impact major roadways, including Interstate 40 and Interstate 75, potentially causing hazardous driving conditions. Those in the affected areas should be prepared for sudden changes in weather, including strong winds and lightning. It is advised to stay indoors and avoid travel unless absolutely necessary.

While the severe threat will diminish by late evening, further advisories could be issued if storms strengthen or if additional weather hazards arise. Keep an eye on local updates and be prepared to take action if conditions worsen.
