Nashville, TN – A 77-year-old woman was killed Sunday evening after being hit by a pickup truck while crossing a downtown Nashville street.

According to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, the incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. Sunday near the intersection of 3rd Avenue North and Van Buren Street. The victim, identified as Dorothy Dobbins, was reportedly crossing the street inside a marked crosswalk when she was struck by a northbound Chevrolet Silverado.

The truck was allegedly driven by 24-year-old Conner Smith, who police say did not yield the right of way to the pedestrian. Dobbins, a nearby resident, was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

Investigators said Smith showed no signs of impairment at the scene. As of Monday, no charges had been filed, though the investigation remains ongoing.

Police stated that the preliminary contributing factor in the collision was the driver’s alleged failure to yield.

No further details have been released.
