North Shelby County, TN – Authorities arrested a suspect in connection with a fatal shooting at a gas station on Highway 51. The incident occurred Saturday night at the 5300 block of U.S. Highway 51, just south of Fite Road.
Deputies from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of gunfire at approximately 10 p.m. Emergency responders transported an adult male victim to Regional One Health, where medical staff pronounced him dead. Witnesses reported seeing the shooter flee the scene in a vehicle, prompting detectives to launch a homicide investigation.
Detectives identified 39-year-old Anthony Nelson as the suspect. A “be-on-the-lookout” alert was issued to law enforcement agencies across Tennessee, targeting Nelson’s known areas of activity.
On Sunday at 11:30 a.m., authorities apprehended Nelson in Santillo, Tennessee, about 120 miles east of Shelby County. The Hardin County Sheriff’s Office and Tennessee Highway Patrol executed an arrest warrant at a residence in the 1200 block of Dorothy Ann Lane.
Law enforcement charged Nelson with second-degree murder. He remains in custody at the Hardin County Jail, awaiting transfer to the Shelby County Jail at 201 Poplar Avenue.
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office credited the Tennessee Highway Patrol and Hardin County Sheriff’s Office for their collaborative efforts in locating Nelson. Investigators continue their work on the case.
