Huntsville, Alabama – Extreme summer heat continues to grip north-central Alabama and parts of southern middle Tennessee, with heat index values climbing as high as 109° through 7 p.m. Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, a Heat Advisory remains in effect for cities including Florence, Russellville, Huntsville, Cullman, and Fayetteville. Daytime highs in the mid-90s combined with high humidity are pushing “feels like” temperatures well into the danger zone.
The advisory warns of major heat risks, especially for those without air conditioning. “Fans may not be enough,” NWS cautioned. Residents are urged to stay indoors during peak afternoon hours, limit strenuous activity, and wear light-colored clothing. Afternoon thunderstorms are possible but won’t bring widespread relief.
The advisory spans across northwest and north-central Alabama into parts of southern middle Tennessee, where urban areas and unshaded outdoor workers face the greatest risk of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
Drivers are strongly reminded to never leave pets or children in parked vehicles, even briefly, as interior temperatures can spike quickly. Hydration and routine checks on vulnerable neighbors remain key during this heat wave.
⚠️ Heat alerts may be extended into the weekend as dangerous temperatures persist.
