Indianapolis, IN – When trick-or-treaters come to your door this Halloween, a teal pumpkin could be sending a hidden message. The teal pumpkin represents The Teal Pumpkin Project, a nationwide initiative that promotes a safer Halloween for kids with food allergies.

According to the Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE), the Teal Pumpkin Project encourages families to offer non-food treats to trick-or-treaters. By placing a teal pumpkin outside, you signal that your home has allergy-friendly options like small toys, stickers, or other fun items.

The project aims to reduce the risks for children who cannot enjoy traditional Halloween treats due to food allergies. With an estimated 1 in 13 children affected, offering non-food options ensures every child can safely participate.

This October, more Indianapolis families are adopting the teal pumpkin tradition. Participating is simple—paint a pumpkin teal and stock up on non-edible treats. Help spread the word and make Halloween safe for everyone. For more information, visit tealpumpkinproject.org.
