Suspected Drunk Driver Leads Police on Multi-Agency Pursuit in Northwest Indiana

Cedar Lake, IN – A suspected drunk driver led police on a multi-agency chase late Thursday night, culminating in his arrest in St. John. Officers from Cedar Lake, Crown Point, and Lake County Sheriff’s Police were involved.

According to Cedar Lake Police, the incident began at 11:49 p.m. when Sgt. Ryan Miller and Cpl. Doug Machalk responded to reports of a reckless driver near N. Lake Shore Drive and Cline Avenue. The driver, identified as David Piceno, 45, of St. John, reportedly struck a curb and fled when officers attempted to stop him.

The pursuit ended when Lake County Sheriff’s officers executed a PIT maneuver on W. 101st Avenue. Despite the stop, Piceno reportedly refused to exit his vehicle. Police deployed K9 Johnny, apprehending the uncooperative suspect.

Piceno faces charges including resisting law enforcement, operating while intoxicated, and reckless driving. He was booked into the Lake County Jail.

Authorities urge anyone witnessing unsafe driving to report it immediately to help prevent incidents like this.
