Suspect Arrested Following Gunshot Incident Near Monroe Township Quarry

Monroe, MI — A Hamtramck man was arrested early Monday morning after allegedly firing a weapon at a former quarry in Monroe Township.

Monroe County deputies responded around 1:30 a.m. to a call reporting gunshots near Hull Road and East Dunbar Road at the Lake Monroe quarry. According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, deputies also received reports of suspicious activity on the property. Upon arrival, deputies Andrew Boski, Blake Merrill, and Austin Graham stopped a gray Toyota Rav4 as it left the scene. Five occupants were inside the vehicle.

Deputies conducted a search of the vehicle and found a loaded Glock 9mm handgun. The suspect, a 20-year-old male from Hamtramck, MI, did not possess a concealed pistol license. Investigators confirmed that the suspect had fired at least one shot near the water at the quarry.

The suspect was arrested on multiple firearms violations and taken to the Monroe County Jail. His name is being withheld pending formal arraignment in Monroe’s 1st District Court.
