Sumter, SC – A Saturday morning traffic stop in Sumter County led to the arrest of a woman accused of possessing cocaine after a brief pursuit, according to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said the incident began when a patrol officer observed a driver with a suspended license on Broad Street and attempted a traffic stop. Instead of pulling over, the driver allegedly accelerated, prompting a short pursuit through the area.
According to authorities, the vehicle eventually came to a stop on Peach Orchard Road, where deputies identified the driver as 58-year-old Anna Maria Piucci. A search of the vehicle revealed a substance confirmed to be cocaine, the sheriff’s office said.
Piucci was arrested and charged with second-offense possession of cocaine and failure to stop for blue lights. She was also cited for driving with a suspended license. Deputies transported her to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center, where she was later released on bond.
The sheriff’s office said the arrest followed a brief pursuit that ended without injury.
