Sumner County, Tennessee – A 26-year-old man was sentenced to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple fraud-related felonies, prosecutors said.
According to District Attorney General Thomas Dean, Chase Brodie Brown was sentenced Monday, March 2, by Judge Jennifer S. Nichols in Sumner County Criminal Court. Brown pleaded guilty to criminal simulation over $60,000, theft of property over $10,000, criminal simulation over $250,000, and money laundering.
Prosecutors said Brown was already serving supervised release from a prior federal fraud conviction in Illinois when the Sumner County charges were filed. The new 15-year sentence will run consecutively to his federal term, leaving him with additional time to serve.
Authorities said one charge stemmed from Brown allegedly submitting a fraudulent $15,000 check to the Sumner County Clerk’s Office in an attempt to cover unpaid rent after being evicted. In a separate case, investigators said Brown used a fraudulent $50,000 check to acquire a 2024 Malibu wake boat from a Hendersonville business before later selling it to a third party.
Detectives also recovered a fraudulent $380,476.54 check during a 2024 search tied to property in Madison, according to prosecutors. Officials said Brown later deposited proceeds from the boat sale and attempted to conceal the funds by transferring money electronically.
The case involved the Hendersonville Police Department and Sumner County prosecutors.
The sentencing closes a series of investigations spanning multiple jurisdictions and financial institutions.
