Strong Thunderstorms Bring High Winds, Heavy Rain to North Florida

Jacksonville, FL – Strong thunderstorms moving across north-central Florida Monday morning are producing wind gusts up to 50 mph and heavy rainfall, prompting a Special Weather Statement from the National Weather Service (NWS) in Jacksonville.

According to the NWS, storms were tracked near Cross Creek around 6:59 a.m., moving east at 60 mph. A second storm system, moving northeast at 45 mph, was observed near Rainbow Lakes Estates at 6:58 a.m. Affected areas include Flagler, Alachua, St. Johns, Marion, Putnam, and Clay counties.

Residents are advised to seek shelter indoors and avoid driving through flooded roadways. Gusty winds may cause minor damage, including downed tree limbs and unsecured objects being blown around.
