Sterling, IL – A traffic stop on the evening of March 23rd, 2024, led to the arrest of a Rock Falls man on multiple charges. The stop, which occurred on IL Route 2 near Mound Hill Road outside Sterling, IL, around 10:16 pm, escalated when Winston R. Wilbanks, age 36, allegedly provided a false name to the deputy.

According to Lee County Sheriff’s Office, charges against Wilbanks include allegations of Obstructing Justice and Driving while License Revoked (both Class 4 Felonies), Resisting/Obstructing Arrest (a Class A Misdemeanor), and three traffic citations. Wilbanks, who is on Mandatory Supervised Release/Parole from the Illinois Department of Corrections, was not placed on a parole hold despite the charges.

Following the Illinois SAFE-T Act provisions, Wilbanks was assigned a court date and subsequently released from custody. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office has reminded the public that the charges are merely allegations and that Wilbanks is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
